A significant portion of my computers cannot live without me. Dec 30th, 2006 (11PM)
I didn't realize I had to feed and water them every single day.

So I suppose I should kick things off with a bit of an apology- it's been far too long since I've ranted on the internet, and frankly dear reader, that's just not fair to you.

Anyways, I spent the earlier part of the week a few hundred miles away with family for the holidays. And that was all well and good. Upon returning to my little apartment, I unpacked and sat down to veg out for an hour or two in front of the ole' TV, tried to turn on my TVPC thingy (see http://monqui.net/woodypc.html for the box itself), and it clicked at me a few times then simply stopped posting and killed itself.

And as awesome as that was, I was a bit upset. So I click on the cable and pull up my laptop to do some sort of an update on the site. I pushed the power button, it clicked at me a few times, then locked up during the OS boot sequence. Excellent. Decided that was enough excitement for one evening and called it a night.

The next day I took Woody apart and tried to find the problem- turns out the HDD was just shot, but in trying to get to it, the power supply came unmounted, which pretty much shot the entire case. So in the course of a few minutes I managed to undo several hours of hard work, and wound up with a pile of wood, two pieces of cut Plexiglas, and about $250 worth of PC parts. It was kind of a sad moment. The HDD really is shot, though, so I guess it was time for it to die off. I may try to reassemble it at some point, I just don't really have the motivation to do so now.

Nothing too special to say about the lappy, the hard-drive just decided to finally corrupt itself in a rather unceremonious bit of timing.

The good news from this whole little ordeal though is that at least one machine with a hard-drive in my living room managed to not completely kill itself during my absence, and that's the PS3. It's still chugging along pumping out enough heat to cook an egg or two. Which, I guess, works out pretty well for me, because I do love eggs.
